The best way to prepare your child is to make sure they have adequate sleep, a healthy breakfast and arrive at school on time. Children arriving at school after 8:30 on Tuesday morning will not be admitted into the classroom. They will be required to take a retake test on Wednesday or Thursday.
All third graders will take the test again in early April.

Headphones
Computer headphones were on our classroom supply list however, our vendor ran short and they were not available at the school supply sale. If you have a pair of headphones or earbuds that your child could use in class, please label them and send them to school. We have found, when we're in the computer lab, trying to work with 24 sets of speakers playing..... has been less than optimal.Sassafras Springs
In celebration of completing our read aloud, we tried carving our homes out of Ivory Soap, much in the way the character Uncle Alf Dee, carved a tiny village representing Sassafras Springs. We also tried drinking some Sassafras ice tea. The children thought it tasted like root beer, without the bubbles! The Progressive Education Network National Conference
"The Progressive Education Network exists to herald and promote the vision of progressive education on a national basis, while providing opportunities for educators to connect, support, and learn from one another."
I will be an attendee and presenter at the PEN national conference next week and will be out of the classroom on Thursday, Friday and Monday October 10th, 11th and 14th. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity to learn from the major proponents and voices in progressive education in the country.
**Because there will be a substitute teacher a week from Monday, there may be issues with home spelling lists or math home work that comes home on October the 14th. It is a complicated process for a sub to administer. I am asking for your patience, please just send me a note or email and I will rectify the situation as soon as possible.
My own presentation will be based on an authentic and integrated study of economics with my 2011-2012 third grade class. If you are interested you can learn about our experience from a digital story we created and can be found on my former classroom blog.
