A Bus Called Heaven

I hope to see all of you at the Informal Affair this Saturday.  You'll be blown away by the art work each classroom has created. Classroom projects will be auctioned off along with dozens of amazing donated items. The money raised is poured right back into Wickiffe programs that enrich the lives of your children. Where else could you hear your principal play in a great band AND enjoy an evening with old and new friends? You can buy tickets at the door at St. Agatha from 6:30 to 10:30.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Katy Britt, Kim Younkin and Sarah Larsen Miller for leading the children through a thoughtful process to create our class project, a beautiful quilt based on the book A Bus Called Heaven.

Weather Study

To begin our study  we spent time with a collection of  non fiction books about weather. We will learn what makes weather wet and wild, complete hands on experiments, and learn how to forecast the weather. I would  love to try video taping the kids reports using a green screen, so if you have expertise or are willing help out and learn along with us send me an email.

The Water Cycle

To introduce the  water cycle and the properties of evaporation, condensation and precipitation we tried an experiment called Make It Rain. A few of the children wanted to recreate the activity at home so here are the directions:

MATERIALS:

  • glass mayonnaise or canning jar
  • plate
  • hot water
  • ice cubes
  • index cards
PROCESS:
Pour about two inches of very hot water into the glass jar.
Cover the jar with the plate and wait a few minutes before you start the next step.
Put the ice cubes on the plate.
EXPLANATION:
What happens? The cold plate causes the moisture in the warm air, which is inside the jar to condense and form water droplets. This is the same thing that happens in the atmosphere. Warm, moist air rises and meets colder air high in the atmosphere. The water vapor condenses and forms precipitation that falls to the ground.
