The Works

We had a fantastic field trip to The  Works. It was well worth the bus ride to Newark. I recommend it to anyone who remembers  ( and loved ) the old COSI on Broad Street.

We learned how simple machines make work easier--

Madeline preparing to lift Ms. Leath with a lever.

David and Landon lifting 40 pounds without....

... and WITH pulleys.

Maggie thinking about moving Ms. Leath across the room.

Tarek observes as Mrs. Leath adds  wheels and axles.

Emma easily pushes Ms. Leath with the help of 4 wheels and 2 axles.

The Works was originally a machine shop and we observe the wheel, axle and pulley system.

Learning the properties of solid and hollow wheels.

Designing and building cars to try on the race track.

Madeline and David racing cars on the test track.

Zane and Gavin test their "power wheels".

Pow, pow, power wheels!

Rube Goldberg machine

Air power

Magnets

Zane D. checking out what's inside!

Thomas making things move.

Sauyma considers the vortex.

Maggie and Tali  connecting electrical circuits.
