Harvest Party Friday

Harvest Party:

-Children should bring their costumes to school Friday morning. We will begin changing into our costumes around 12:45.

-If you would like to come and assist with our transformations….it is always helpful to have a few extra hands to help with wigs, make-up, tying sashes etc.
-The Wickliffe Harvest Parade begins at 1:30. Everyone is invited to watch the parade and attend our party.
-Wickliffe children are encouraged to bring canned or dry goods to donate to the Open Shelter. We load our food into Percy's truck along our parade route.

Integrated Studies/ Multi-Cultural Cinderella:

Interdisciplinary understanding is crucial for modern-thinking students. Integrated studies involves bringing together traditionally separate subjects so that students can grasp a more authentic understanding. Our study began by comparing nine versions of Cinderella, noting the cultural aspects inherent in the stories. Our study involved social studies,  creating maps, learning the differences between continents and countries, comparative literature and plenty of reading. After discussions about character we will now be moving our project into the realm of service learning.

Shared Reading/ You Read to Me, I'll Read to You

We  had a wonderful time using our most expressive voices while performing these tales  for two voices to read together.

Shared Reading is an interactive reading experience that occurs when students join in or share the reading of a book or other text . The children were working on the skills of proficient readers, focusing on  reading with fluency and expression.

Biographies

Biographies can bring history to life. When we find out what motivated great individuals from the past it helps us understand their actions.

Using graphic organziers

Graphic organizers help students  make connections between concepts. When students learn from visual charts, writing will become less frustrating
