News from our state legislature and Governor

The State of Ohio has once again changed the way the reading skills of third graders will be tested this spring.
Before the holiday break, Ohio’s Department of Education let districts in the state know that all third grade students will continue to take the Ohio Achievement Assessment in reading, instead of switching to the Partnership for the Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) exam.
The bill signed by Governor John Kasich only changes the reading test for this spring. Districts will transition to the new Common Core reading assessment for the 2015-2016 school year,
However, all third graders will take the PARCC test for mathematics on February the 17th.
At this point we have been told that ALL third graders will retake the OAA on April 22. The OAA is the test the children took in the fall. The higher of the two scores is used, so if your child received a passing grade on the fall test they will be promoted to the fourth grade. The spring test will be used as a growth measure.

New Student

We are happy to welcome a new third grade student, Elizabeth to our class. Elizabeth is a wonderful addition to our community and comes to us from the Virginia/Washington D.C. area. Because this brings our class size to 26, we will be assigned a part time aide. Our school board has placed a limit of 25 students per elementary classroom, so Mr. Collaros is in the process of interviewing candidates for the supplemental position.

Go Bucks

Paul Imhoff, our superintendent is encouraging all OSU fans to wear scarlet and gray on Monday to  support our local team.
